I would like the database for two scripts that I am purchased integrated into one. The two scripts are E-friends and Video Share by altrasoft.com. I have already have both scripts installed on my server on my domain WWW.VIBESHOW.COM and WWW.VIBESHOW.COM/FRIENDS. Description and demos of the script can be found on the following pages. You will notice on the products page that both scripts can be purchased as a combo package, however they are still seperate installations and the developer did give me a quote to integrate both scripts, however I think that I can have a programmer do it a bit cheaper.
What one programmer has suggested is below.
Maybe the best way of implementation would be to allow each script to use their set of datatables within the database, and have some additional scripts to synchronize modifications between the two software packages. Though the briefing said to merge both packages into one database, this is not even necessary if additional syncing scripts are used.
What certainly needs to change is the part from both packages that provides the user interface in the web browser. An alternative would be to create completely new interface scripts based on code from the 2 scripts. This would allow for easier upgrading, as long as the upgrades do not affect the user interface.
The basic approach to merge the two scripts is to make them use the same database, so the most basic change to the scripts will the setting for the SQL database (database name, username, password, host).
I may also want to have a common handling of membership (combining features) and affiliates. To make all related settings affect both scripts the code may have to get modified significantly. Therefore with each upgrade to the official software package I will have to apply and develop all modifications again. Depending on the amount of changes in the upgrade this can range from trivial to difficult. It is very important that I will still be able to apply upgrades when the script has a newer version released by the developer. |
